Patient
Hi, I need some advice regarding a medical issue I'm experiencing right now.
Triage Assistant
I can help with that. Where does it hurt?
Patient
It's in my chest.
Triage Assistant
Does the pain go anywhere else, such as into your neck, jaw, arms, or back?
Patient
No, it's just in my chest.
Triage Assistant
When did the chest pain begin?
Patient
Triage Assistant
Is the pain constant or does it come and go? Does it get worse with exertion?
Patient
It's been constant since it started.
Triage Assistant
How would you rate the pain on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is mild (doesn't interfere with normal activities) and 10 is severe (excruciating pain, unable to do any normal activities)?
Patient
I'd say it's about an 8. It's quite severe.
Triage Assistant
Do you have any history of heart problems or risk factors for heart disease, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, or a strong family history of heart disease?
Patient
I have high blood pressure, and my dad had a heart attack when he was 50.
Triage Assistant
You need to call 911 right away. This could be a serious condition such as a heart attack. Stay calm and try to lie down with your feet elevated while you wait for the paramedics to arrive. If you are not allergic to aspirin, you can chew a regular aspirin (160-325 mg). Thank you for calling, goodbye.
