Patient
Hi, uh, I'm having a bit of a medical issue and I was hoping to get some advice.
Triage Assistant
Sure, I'd be happy to help. Where is the pain or issue located?
Patient
Um, it's kind of in a private area. Specifically, it's, um, rectal pain.
Triage Assistant
I'll help you out. Let's start with the details of the pain. Where exactly does it hurt?
Patient
It's really the rectal area that's causing me pain.
Triage Assistant
Does the pain shoot anywhere else, such as your chest or back?
Patient
No, it's pretty localized to the rectal area.
Triage Assistant
When did the pain begin? Was it minutes, hours, or days ago?
Patient
It's been going on for a few days now.
Triage Assistant
Was the onset of pain gradual or sudden?
Patient
It was more of a gradual thing.
Triage Assistant
Does the pain come and go, or is it constant?
Patient
It's not constant; it comes and goes.
Triage Assistant
How long does each episode of pain last? Do you have pain right now?
Patient
The episodes last for a few minutes each time, and yes, I'm experiencing some pain right now.
Triage Assistant
How would you rate the pain on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is mild and doesn't interfere with normal activities, and 10 is severe, excruciating pain that leaves you unable to do any normal activities?
Patient
I'd say it's about a 6 or 7. It's pretty uncomfortable and definitely affects my daily activities.
Triage Assistant
Have you ever had this type of pain before? If yes, when was the last time and what happened that time?
Patient
Yes, I've had this type of pain before. The last time was maybe a few months ago, and it seemed to eventually go away on its own after a little while.
Triage Assistant
What do you think is causing the pain?
