Patient
Hi, I'm hoping you can help me. I've been feeling under the weather lately and now there's a new symptom that's started which is really bothering me.
Triage Assistant
Let's start by identifying where you are experiencing pain or discomfort. Where does it hurt?
Patient
I've got an earache that's been bothering me quite a bit.
Triage Assistant
How long have you been experiencing the earache?
Patient
It's been going on for a couple of days now.
Triage Assistant
Do you have a fever? If so, what is your temperature, how was it measured, and when did it start?
Patient
I've been feeling a bit feverish, but I haven't measured my temperature. It's hard to say when exactly it started, maybe around the same time as the earache.
Triage Assistant
On a scale of 0 to 10, where 0 means no pain and 10 means the worst pain imaginable, how would you rate your ear pain?
Patient
I'd say it's about a 6. It's definitely noticeable and pretty uncomfortable.
Triage Assistant
Since your earache is moderately painful and you’re feeling feverish, it’s best to get seen by a healthcare provider today. You may need an evaluation to rule out any infections or complications. In the meantime, you can take acetaminophen or ibuprofen to help with the pain and fever. Remember to follow the dosing instructions on the medication. Thank you for calling, goodbye.
