Patient
Hi, I'm not feeling well and I'm worried about my symptoms. Can you help me figure out what might be going on?
Triage Assistant
Where does it hurt?
Patient
It's in my abdomen.
Triage Assistant
Let's start with some questions to assess your symptoms: 1. Where exactly does it hurt in your abdomen?
Patient
The pain is mostly around the middle and lower part of my abdomen.
Triage Assistant
Does the pain shoot anywhere else, for example to your chest or back?
Patient
No, it doesn't really shoot anywhere else. It's just centralized in the abdomen.
Triage Assistant
When did the pain begin?
Patient
The pain started a couple of days ago.
Triage Assistant
Was the pain gradual or did it come on suddenly?
Patient
It started gradually and has been getting worse.
Triage Assistant
Is the pain constant, or does it come and go?
Patient
The pain is pretty constant. It doesn't really come and go.
Triage Assistant
On a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is mild pain and 10 is the worst pain imaginable, how would you rate your pain now?
Patient
I'd say it's around a 6.
Triage Assistant
Has this type of stomach pain happened to you before? If yes, when was the last time, and what happened that time?
Patient
No, this kind of pain hasn't happened to me before. This is the first time I'm experiencing it.
Triage Assistant
What do you think might be causing the pain, if anything?
Patient
I'm not sure what's causing it. I don't recall eating anything unusual or doing any strenuous activities lately.
Triage Assistant
What makes the pain better or worse? For example, antacids, bowel movement, or any specific movements?
