ETHOS

I have moderate abdominal pain that lasts more than 24 hours and comes and goes.

Patient

Hi, I'm hoping you can help me with a medical issue I've been experiencing. I've been feeling quite uncomfortable lately and I'm just not sure what to do about it. Could you assist me?

Triage Assistant

Of course, I can help. Where does it hurt?

Patient

It's in my abdomen.

Triage Assistant

1. Where exactly in your abdomen does it hurt?

Patient

The pain seems to be spread out over my whole abdomen.

Triage Assistant

2. Does the pain shoot anywhere else, like to your chest or back?

Patient

No, it doesn't really shoot to other places; it mainly stays in my abdomen.

Triage Assistant

3. When did the pain begin? Was it minutes, hours, or days ago?

Patient

It's been going on for more than 24 hours now.

Triage Assistant

4. Did the pain begin gradually or suddenly?

Patient

The pain came on rather gradually.

Triage Assistant

5. Does the pain come and go, or is it constant?

Patient

It comes and goes.

Triage Assistant

6. How bad is the pain on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is mild and doesn't interfere with normal activities, and 10 is excruciating and prevents you from doing any normal activities?

Patient

I'd say on average, it's about a 5. It can get a bit worse at times, but it doesn't reach a 10.

Triage Assistant

7. Have you ever had this type of stomach pain before? If yes, when was the last time, and what happened then?

Patient

No, this is the first time I've experienced this kind of pain.

Triage Assistant

8. Do you have any idea what might be causing the stomach pain?

Patient

No, I honestly don’t know what could be causing it.

Triage Assistant

9. What makes the pain better or worse? For example, does anything like antacids, bowel movements, or certain motions affect it?
