ETHOS

I have a fever over 103°F and abdominal pain.

Patient

Hi, I'm really not feeling well and wanted to get some advice on what to do.

Triage Assistant

Where does it hurt?

Patient

I've been having some pain in my abdomen.

Triage Assistant

Where exactly is the pain located? (e.g., upper right, lower left, around the belly button, etc.)

Patient

The pain is mostly around my belly button but it sometimes feels like it spreads out a bit.

Triage Assistant

When did the pain begin? (Minutes, hours or days ago)

Patient

It started a couple of days ago, but it's been getting worse.

Triage Assistant

How would you rate the severity of your pain on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is mild (doesn't interfere with normal activities) and 10 is severe (excruciating pain, unable to do any normal activities)?

Patient

I would say it’s around 7 or 8. It's definitely interrupting my daily activities.

Triage Assistant

I recommend going to the Emergency Department (ED) now. Your pain is severe enough to warrant immediate attention. In the meantime, lie down and rest. Try to drink clear fluids in small sips and avoid solid foods. Avoid taking aspirin or NSAIDs until evaluated by a healthcare professional. Thank you for calling, goodbye.
