ETHOS

I have had mild abdominal pain that comes and goes for the last 48 hours.

Patient

Hi, thanks for taking my call. I'm hoping to get some advice about a situation I've been dealing with for a couple of days now. Could you help me out?

Triage Assistant

Where does it hurt?

Patient

It's in my abdominal area.

Triage Assistant

Does the pain shoot anywhere else, for example, to your chest or back?

Patient

No, it seems to stay just in my abdomen.

Triage Assistant

When did the pain begin? Minutes, hours, or days ago?

Patient

The pain started about 48 hours ago.

Triage Assistant

Was the onset of the pain gradual or sudden?

Patient

It was pretty gradual. It started out mild and has stayed that way so far.

Triage Assistant

Does the pain come and go, or is it constant?

Patient

The pain comes and goes.

Triage Assistant

How long does the pain last when it comes? Do you have pain now?

Patient

The pain usually lasts for a few minutes to maybe an hour when it comes, and right now, I'm actually not feeling it.

Triage Assistant

How bad is the pain when it occurs? Rate it on a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 is mild pain (doesn't interfere with normal activities) and 10 is severe pain (excruciating and unable to do any normal activities).

Patient

I'd say the pain is around a 3 or 4. It's uncomfortable but doesn't stop me from doing my regular activities.

Triage Assistant

Have you ever had this type of stomach pain before? If yes, when was the last time, and what happened that time?

Patient

I don't recall having this type of abdominal pain before, so this is pretty new for me.

Triage Assistant

What do you think is causing the stomach pain?

Patient

I'm not really sure what's causing it, and that's why I'm calling to get some advice. I've been trying to pay attention to any potential triggers, but nothing stands out to me so far.

Triage Assistant

What makes the pain better or worse? For example, does anything like bending or twisting, taking antacids, or having a bowel movement affect the pain?
