ETHOS

I'm over 60 years old with a fever above 101°F and a bad cough.

Patient

Hi, I've been feeling quite unwell lately and wanted to get some medical advice on what I should do next.

Triage Assistant

Where does it hurt?

Patient

I've been dealing with a persistent cough, and I'm also running a pretty high fever.

Triage Assistant

When did the cough begin?

Patient

The cough started a few days ago.

Triage Assistant

How bad is the cough today?

Patient

It's gotten quite bad. It's really been affecting my ability to rest properly.

Triage Assistant

Are you having difficulty breathing? If yes, how bad is it (mild, moderate, or severe)?

Patient

I wouldn't say I'm having severe difficulty breathing, but it's definitely more than mild. I guess I would describe it as moderate.

Triage Assistant

Please dial emergency services (911) right away. Moderate difficulty breathing that is persistent, even when not coughing, could be a sign of a severe condition like pneumonia, and requires immediate medical attention. Thank you for calling, goodbye.
